A NEW futsal court has opened in Shah Alam, Selangor, as part of efforts to enhance access to recreational and sports facilities.

Built at a cost of RM2.2mil by Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), the facility can accommodate up to 30 people at a time.

In her speech at its launch, Shah Alam mayor Datuk Zabidah Safar said Arena Futsal Padang Jawa was one of 12 futsal courts managed by MBSA.

“Futsal is one of the most popular sports in Malaysia, with many communities and associations involved in it.

“I hope the public will take good care of the new court and refrain from vandalism,” she said.

The project, which began in January 2024, was completed in March last year.

Guest-of-honour Shah Alam MP Azli Yusof said he hoped the new facility would spur more associations to organise futsal tournaments.

Located at Jalan Mat Raji, Padang Jawa, the futsal court is equipped with changing rooms, toilets and playground.

It opens daily between 7am and 11pm with a booking fee of RM30 per hour, paid online, via MBSA’s website.

Meanwhile, MBSA said it planned to expand its free meal programme to Section 15 in August.

Under the initiative, the city council will distribute food vouchers worth RM10 to customers at food courts.

MBSA deputy secretary (management) Shahrin Ahmad said the programme was in its third year.

“We organise it thrice a year.

“For the second series in 2026, we plan to have it at Section 15 in August in conjunction with National Day,” he said.

Shahrin said the location was chosen for its high concentration of civil servants and industrial workers.

The earlier series was held at a food court in Section 28 in May.

Recipients can use the vouchers to buy meals from participating stalls.

MBSA will then reimburse traders based on the number of vouchers collected.

Those who order food costing more than RM10 will only need to pay the difference.

Present at the launch of the futsal court were Batu Tiga assemblyman Danial Al-Rashid Haron Aminar Rashid, Football Association Selangor committee member K. Sanbagamaran and MBSA councillor Mohd Firdaus Mokhtar.
