THE Selangor government is looking into establishing a Job Skills Council next year to address job mismatches between industry requirements as opposed to what training institutions are offering.
"The council will be a platform to gather industry players and training institutions such as community colleges and skills colleges," said Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
"It will identify key job fields that require proper development so training and programmes offered at institutions match what is required, or tweak their existing offers to suit industry needs."
Meanwhile, state human resources and poverty eradication committee chairman V. Papparaidu is scheduled to meet 400 workers affected by the closure of Panasonic's television production plant in Shah Alam.
"This engagement session will be done in collaboration with the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO)," he said.
"The affected workers will be briefed about initiatives by PERKESO to assist them, such as the job seeking allowance for those who are retrenched.
"There will also be efforts to offer them jobs, based on their skills and experiences, within Shah Alam or the Klang Valley area."
Amirudin and Papparaidu said this after officiating the Mega JobCare Selangor 2026 with MyFutureJobs.
The two-day job fair will be taking place on Aug 8 and 9 at the Shah Alam Convention Centre (SACC) in Section 14, Shah Alam.
Amirudin said the event featured close to 150 companies from various industries, with some 11,000 job offers available.
"Some 98% of the jobs are located within Selangor, with the remainder in border states such as Negri Sembilan and Perak.
"Approximately 62% of the jobs offered come with a salary of more than RM3,000," he said, adding the event organisers were targeting over 10,000 visitors.
