Madani Aidilfitri open house in Selangor called off

PETALING JAYA: The Madani Aidilfitri open house in Selangor that was supposed to take place on Sunday (April 6) has been called off.

In a Facebook post, Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah said he had issued a decree to cancel the state-level Aidilfitri open house.

The decree was conveyed to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who agreed to the cancellation.

"His Royal Highness is very concerned for and respects victims and families involved in the Putra Heights incident.

"His Royal Highness has also ordered that the preparations for the event, especially food, be distributed to temporary relief centres (PPS), security personnel, firefighters, volunteers and NGOs, orphanages and schools located near the incident site.

"Hopefully, this can bring some joy to the victims and staff working hard to provide their services," read the post on Saturday (April 5).

Sealngor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari made a similar announcement, saying he had received the consent of the Sultan of Sealngor and the approval of the Prime Minister to cancel the event in light of the gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya.

"All preparations such as food will be channelled to temporary relief centres, orphanages, boarding schools and security personnel.

"This decision was made out of respect for victims and families involved in the incident in Putra Heights.

"A heartfelt thank you goes out to the entire task force and those who worked hard to organise the event and I appreciate their understanding," he said.
