KUCHING: Cross-border haze has pushed the air quality to unhealthy levels in six areas in Sarawak as of 4pm on Saturday (Aug 8).
Data from the Air Pollutant Index Management System (Apims) showed unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings in Kuching (153), Samarahan (155), Serian (171), Sri Aman (124), Mukah (115) and Bintulu (153).
Earlier, Sarawak's Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said cross-border haze could affect 19 areas in the state over the next few days, with winds currently carrying smoke from hotspots in neighbouring regions into Sarawak.
The State Disaster Management Committee chairman said the areas identified were Betong, Bintulu, Daro, Julau, Kanowit, Kuching, Lundu, Marudi, Miri, Mukah, Pakan, Samarahan, Saratok, Serian, Sibu, Simunjan, Song, Sri Aman and Tatau. – Bernama
