THE much-awaited drain upgrading works in Jinjang Utara in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur are expected to be completed within a month.
Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng said drains along Jalan Jinjang Indah 11, starting from the Jalan Tebing Timor junction to Jalan Jinjang Permai 3 and covering five households, would be upgraded.
“A total of RM200,000 was allocated by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) for the project.
“We urged DBKL to carry out the project since it was taking too long for the Housing and Local Government Ministry allocation to come through,” he said.
In a StarMetro article titled “Jinjang Utara folk want urgent action over frequent flooding” published on April 15, Lim was reported saying that he had applied for a RM200,000 grant from the ministry in January for the drainage upgrade.
Residents along the stretch have been facing recurring floods due to the old drains’ insufficient capacity.
Despite residents setting up barriers, their homes are often flooded.
Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) complaints and welfare bureau (central) head Lee Hoi Eng, who spoke on behalf of the residents, said floods had been prevalent in Jinjang for over 20 years, adding to residents’ stress levels and sleepless nights. – By LEW GUAN XI
