JINJANG residents are urging Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to repair a big gap in a monsoon drain fence at Jalan Tebing Selatan.
Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) complaints and welfare bureau (central) head Lee Hoi Eng said nearby residents had complained that it was a safety hazard.
“Pedestrians using the road might misstep and fall into the drain, especially since it is near two primary schools, SJK(C) Jinjang Tengah 1 and 2.
“The gap seems to have been created to enable the authorities to clean the drain as there are concrete steps leading down.
“But the gap is too big and it is easy for anyone to fall in,” he told reporters at the site.
Lee, who is also an alumnus of SJK(C) Jinjang Tengah 1, recounted a tragic incident in which his senior died after falling into the drain in the 1990s during a downpour.
“Previously, the monsoon drain did not have a perimeter fence.
“The tragic incident prompted the subsequent installation of the perimeter fence,” he said.
Lee also highlighted two abandoned vehicles and a pile of uncollected rubbish in front of the school on Jalan Jinjang Permai 8.
“The vehicles have been left on the side of the road.
“A pile of uncollected rubbish and bulk waste can also be found between the abandoned cars,” he said, urging DBKL to look into the matter.
Also present was PRM Youth leader Chua Yi Ken.
