Jinjang residents demand answers from DBKL over housing promises

RESIDENTS of Jinjang Selatan Tambahan are seeking clarity and immediate action from DBKL after decades of uncertainty regarding their housing status.

Resident representative Ameer Khan Barghatali said a memorandum was handed over to the mayor’s special officer, Khairul Azlan Yusuf, at Menara DBKL 1 on Friday (Sept 26).

Ameer said their main complaint centres on temporary occupation licences (TOL) holders who have yet to receive offers for free housing or replacement units.

He also said 43 shop owners who have held TOLs since the 1970s have been excluded from compensation or replacement units.

He also claimed there was no clarity on the list of eligible recipients, and reports on suspected misallocation of units have been closed without follow-up, raising doubts about the integrity of DBKL’s investigations.

StarMetro had previously highlighted the plight of the residents who received a notice to vacate their homes from the Federal Land Commissioner on Nov 14, 2024.

A second eviction notice followed on April 7, issued by a legal firm representing a private company that had leased the land from the Federal Territories Department of the Director-General of Lands and Mines (JKPTG).

The latest eviction notice, dated Sept 9, has been postponed.
