Malaysia Games (Sukma) and Para Sukma 2026 kicked off with a bang at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam in Selangor’s capital city, marking the return of the multi-sport extravaganza to the state after 28 years.

The opening ceremony featured a parade of state contingents along with some adorable mascots, the raising of the Sukma flag and the reading of the oath led by young bowling athlete Muhammad Aiman Syahin Sulaiman, reported Bernama.

The crowd cheered as the Sukma torch was carried in by Selangor-born Marilyn Chua – who represented Malaysia in swimming at the 2000 Sydney Olympics – accompanied by former Olympic gymnast Farah Ann Abdul Hadi and national swimmer Andrew Goh.

The thousands in attendance also enjoyed a laser show, cultural dances and musical performances from the likes of Azlan & The Typewriters, Jaclyn Victor and Nadeera Zaini.
