Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) has named Taiwan as its “International Favourite Destination” for the upcoming National MATTA Fair.
This announcement comes at a timely moment, as tourist arrivals to Taiwan rose by 3.4% in early July, MATTA said in a statement.
MATTA fair aimed to capitalise on this momentum by spotlighting Taiwan as a leading international destination, while continuing to champion inbound and domestic tourism.
The fair is scheduled for Sept 4 to 6 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec), Kuala Lumpur.
In 2025, Taiwan welcomed a record 8.575 million international visitors, up 9.1% year-on- year, ranking Malaysia as its top source in the region, contributing 424,094 visitors.
The relationship runs both ways.
The same year, over 390,000 Taiwanese travellers visited Malaysia, highlighting the steady, two-way flow of travellers, ranking third among non-Organisation of Islamic Cooperation nations in the 2026 Mastercard Crescent Rating Global Muslim Travel Index.
“The strong and steady exchange of travellers and bond between Malaysia and Taiwan is solid proof that both inbound and outbound tourism are moving at a healthy pace,” said MATTA president and MATTA Fair September 2026 organising chairman Nigel Wong.
“Naming Taiwan our ‘International Favourite Destination’ is a natural next step, and we look forward to strengthening both sectors and deepening our partnership within the tourism industry.”
According to Taiwan Tourism Administration Kuala Lumpur Office director Abe Chou, Malaysia is an important and steadily growing source market for Taiwan tourism.
“Our participation in MATTA Fair September 2026 demonstrates our strong commitment to strengthening tourism ties and bilateral exchanges between Taiwan and Malaysia,” he said.
“Through our ‘Taiwan – Waves of Wonder’ theme, we hope to inspire more Malaysian travellers to discover Taiwan’s diverse tourism experiences, from culture and cuisine to nature and leisure, and to experience its unique charms.”
Chou said the organisers had invited four Malaysian travel agencies to join the Taiwan Pavilion and offer Muslim-friendly travel packages, further catering to the travel needs of Malaysian Muslim travellers.
“We look forward to working closely with our Malaysian partners to further develop the Muslim-friendly tourism market and create more opportunities for two-way travel between Taiwan and Malaysia,” he added.
MATTA Fair September 2026 spans 10 exhibition halls, covering more than 40,820sq m of exhibition space.
This edition is set to feature 2,026 booths from 285 participating companies.
With strong interest from the industry, exhibitor participation is expected to increase further in the weeks leading up to the fair.
Visitors can explore Taiwan’s “Waves of Wonder” at its pavilion, located at Level 3 (International Hall) throughout the three-day fair.
MATTA Fair offers free admission and will be open from 10am to 9pm, from Friday to Sunday.
Visitors are encouraged to take advantage of the complimentary shuttle services from KL Sentral and Sunway Putra Mall to Mitec.
