AMPANG Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) recorded a 30.87% rise in assessment tax collection this year, with RM40.18mil collected as of Feb 28.
This is a RM9.47mil increase in collection compared to the same period last year, said MPAJ president Dr Ani Ahmad.
Based on MPAJ’s 2025 Budget, she said the local council aimed to collect RM93mil in current assessment tax.
“The Revenue Department has taken enforcement action against defaulters by issuing Form E for assessment tax arrears for March in commercial and residential areas.
“This involves 580 accounts with total outstanding arrears amounting to RM696,239.40.
“The areas include Taman Keramat, Taman Permata, Taman Ukay Perdana, Taman Bukit Permai and Taman Pandan Perdana,” she said during MPAJ’s monthly full board meeting at Menara MPAJ.
Those issued with Notice E must remit payment within 24 hours and will be levied a 2% late payment charge.
Errant owners will be issued an attachment warrant, which will allow the local authority to confiscate items inside their premises.
Ani said MPAJ also collected RM3.6mil in assessment arrears and was targeting to collect RM20.1mil in arrears this year.
On another matter, she said MPAJ had collected RM55,310 from temporary fireworks sales permits in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
“MPAJ approved 51 out of 81 applications that were received.
“Applicants who have been approved and had made the payment must obtain a fireworks selling permit from the police,” she said. — By SHALINI RAVINDRAN
