Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) officers in Selangor went door-to-door to recover nearly RM1mil in unpaid assessment taxes.
The May 10 operation focused on residential areas in Taman Melawati, Desa Melawati and Kemensah.
Following the visits, MPAJ collected RM20,500, equivalent to 1.89% of the total arrears.
In a statement, MPAJ said 50 properties, each with unpaid assessment taxes exceeding RM10,000, were visited during the operation. Their total arrears amounted to RM953,214.72.
“Four vacant houses have accumulated arrears nearing RM100,000.
“An amicable and consultative approach was implemented to help property owners settle their outstanding payments in a more organised manner, while raising awareness on the responsibility of paying assessment taxes.”
Joining the operation were MPAJ Zone 1 councillor Mohamed Radziff Hasan and MPAJ Revenue Department director Hasliza Kamarul Zaman.
Since 2023, MPAJ has established a Special Revenue Squad comprising council personnel tasked with recovering outstanding payments from ratepayers.
Between January and March, MPAJ collected RM41mil in current assessment tax and RM4.6mil in arrears, according to figures revealed during the council’s full board meeting in April.
Assessment tax collection fell by RM3.2mil, a drop of 7.33%, while collection of arrears declined by RM414,000, or 8.24%, compared with the same period last year.
Overall, total collections dropped by RM3.6mil, representing a 7.42% decline from 2025.
