TAKAFUL operator Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Keluarga Bhd led a beach conservation initiative at Tanjung Balau in Desaru, Johor.

The initiative involving about 650 Takaful Malaysia employees reflected the group’s continued efforts to embed sustainability principles into its operations while fostering a culture of shared environmental responsibility across the organisation, the firm said in a media statement.

Takaful Malaysia group chief executive officer Nor Azman Zainal said, “Protecting the environment goes beyond raising awareness. It requires consistent and collective effort.

“Initiatives like these enable us to contribute directly to environmental protection while strengthening shared responsibility across our organisation and the communities we serve.”

Held in conjunction with Takaful Malaysia Away Day 2026, the initiative comprised a coastal clean-up and a beach water treatment activity using Effective Microorganism (EM) mudballs.

This eco‑friendly approach supports cleaner water and contributes to the long-term recovery and resilience of the coastal ecosystem.

During the programme, over 620kg of marine waste was removed, including discarded fishing nets, which posed a significant threat to marine life such as turtles, the firm said.

The programme was conducted in collaboration with Green Earth Society Johor Baru, an environmental non-governmental organisation specialising in ecological restoration and sustainability awareness initiatives.

“Beyond the immediate impact, the initiative also plays an important role in strengthening awareness and encouraging long-term behavioural change,” added Nor Azman.

Also present was Takaful Malaysia Am chief executive officer Mohamed Sabri Ramli.
