AN ILLEGAL chicken farm at Jalan Raja Abdullah in Jeram, Selangor, was raided after its operator failed to fully clear the site and cease operations despite earlier notices.
Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS), in a statement, said the four-hour enforcement operation to shut down the farm was carried out with help from several government agencies.
“An initial inspection showed that the company had partially removed some chickens and evacuated the premises.
“Five chicken coops had been cleared while birds from three more coops were still in the removal process.”
MPKS said the business was closed the same day for violating several council procedures.
“MPKS issued compounds to the operator for running a business without valid licences and for cleanliness issues, after the farm was found to have discharged effluent into a nearby stream.
“We also seized assets, including 11 water pumps and a forklift.”
Following inspections by relevant agencies, electricity and water supply to the farm were also disconnected, added MPKS.
The operation involved a total of 46 personnel from MPKS, Kuala Selangor District and Land Office, Kuala Selangor Veterinary Services Department, National Water Services Commission, Air Selangor, Tenaga Nasional Bhd and the police.
MPKS said it would intensify enforcement against illegal business and farming activities.
“We will not compromise with parties that fail to comply with the law; safeguarding residents remains our priority,” added MPKS.
In a separate operation, the Hulu Selangor Municipal Council (MPHS) seized two stalls occupying parking bays at Dataran Warisan in Jalan Mat Kilau, Kuala Kubu Baru.
MPHS said the action was taken after the owners failed to comply with a notice to vacate issued under the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974.
