A leading 24-hour wholesale and grocery retailer has launched its first outlet in Johor.

Sri Ternak Group has plans to open an additional nine wholesale and retail supermarkets under the brand name ST Rosyam Mart in Johor in the next five years.

Local actor Datuk Rosyam Nor, who is ST Rosyam Mart director, said Tampoi was chosen as the first outlet in Johor because the market and residential catchment area had an estimated population of 500,000 people.

Rosyam, whose real name is Mohamed Noor Shamsuddin, was speaking with reporters at the opening of the 24-hour outlet in Paragon Market Place in Tampoi.

He said Johor offered good growth prospects and business opportunities for the company to further expand its footprint in the state.

“We want to reach more people in the state. With about 4.22 million people in Johor, the number is too big to ignore.”

Among those attending the event were Johor unity, heritage and culture committee chairman P. Pannir Selvam, Sri Ternak Group chief executive officer Datuk Raymond Ho, group executive director Allan Ho and group director William Ho.

Joland Group managing director Datuk Seri Edwin Tan Pei Seng and group executive director Datuk Seri Godwin Tan Pei Poh were also present.

Joland Group is one of the co-developers of Paragon Market Place, a joint venture between the group and Kuopacific Group.

Raymond said Sri Ternak Group invested RM25mil for its first outlet in Johor.

It covered a floor area of 22,000sq ft and has created 400 job opportunities.

“Our first 24-hour supermarket lets customers shop for groceries whenever they want.”

Raymond said Malaysian workers in Singapore, especially those on night shifts who finished work the next day, would find the 24-hour supermarket convenient.

He said the opening of ST Rosyam Mart also offered opportunities for vendors, especially small and medium enterprises to supply their products to the outlets.

He also said there were over 40 in-house brands for customers to choose from, giving them value for money.

“We want to open shopping malls in the near future, where ST Rosyam Mart will be the anchor tenant,” he said, adding that going forward, the group planned to go public.
