Selangor state government, through Wanita Berdaya Selangor (WBS), continues to strengthen its women’s empowerment agenda with the “Jelajah Wanita Berdaya Tahan Selangor 2026” programme.

Selangor women empowerment and welfare chairman Anfaal Saari said the touring programme focused on aspects of economic development, social welfare and family preparedness in facing current challenges.

She said the initiative was in line with the Selangor Women’s Policy 2024-2026 and Selangor Care Economy Policy 2024-2030 implemented by the state government.

“As the conflict in Middle East remains ongoing, there may be some women who have been laid off or want to explore new opportunities.

“This programme brings together various agencies under one roof to make it easier for the people to obtain information on options available to them,” Anfaal told Bernama after launching the programme’s first stop in the Petaling district held at a community hall in Subang Jaya.

To support women returning to work and mastering digital skills, including artificial intelligence (AI), the programme also featured a women’s career carnival and career comeback workshop in collaboration with the Social Security Organisation and Talent Corporation Malaysia Bhd.

The “Jelajah Wanita Berdaya Tahan Selangor 2026” tour will continue in Hulu Langat, Hulu Selangor and Gombak, then end in Kuala Selangor.

In an effort to strengthen support for single mothers in Selangor, Anfaal said Yayasan MBI, a foundation under Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated, allocated RM100,000 this year to provide food basket assistance and RM100 monthly vouchers under the Kita Selangor programme for a period of six months, starting next month.

For the elderly, Anfaal said a RM50,000 grant has been allocated to the Selangor Social Welfare Department to run 10 community programmes this year.

In her speech at the event, Anfaal said the state government was now actively strengthening the ecosystem of childcare and social protection for carers to reduce the unpaid care burden shouldered by women.

“We want to ensure that women do not have to choose between career and family. When a family has more than one source of income, they are better prepared to face any economic crisis,” she said.
