MORE than 300 pupils in Sekolah Agama Kampung Pulai will benefit from improved infrastructure and facilities following a community outreach programme by PLUS Malaysia Bhd.

The highway concessionaire’s commercial facilities business head Mohd Fauzi Puniran said the school in Gelang Patah was selected as one of the locations for its annual corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.

“The activities we carried out included repainting the school building and gates, replacing signage, repairing guard rails and clearing drains.

“We also made improvements to the school’s resource centre and staff room to provide a more conducive environment for pupils and teachers,” he said during the programme.

According to Mohd Fauzi, more than 60 PLUS staff were involved in the initiative, alongside volunteers from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, the police and local community members.

The highway concessionaire, he said, had been giving back to society through CSR initiatives since 2013, benefitting more than 80,000 people in various communities nationwide.

“This is our way of reaching out to different communities located along PLUS’ 1,136km-long network across Malaysia,” said Mohd Fauzi.

School headmistress Siti Rohana Tukiman thanked the company for its efforts to improve the facilities.

“The refurbishment began two weeks ago, when the toilets were repaired and new carpet was installed in the staff room.

“PLUS told us they are also planning to provide the school with a fish pond and waste disposal area,” she said.

Siti Rohana said the school had six teachers and 340 pupils across two sessions.

“We still a lack a hall for assembly. If there are major announcements, assembly is held later in the afternoon when it is slightly cooler,” she said.
