RUNNERS affected by the cancellation of the Petaling Jaya Half Marathon have until Tuesday (Sept 8) to collect their race packs.
In a statement on Sunday, the organiser said participants may collect their race packs at the Puncak Ventures Office in Subang Jaya between 10am and 4.30pm.
Participants are advised to call 03-5103 3888 in advance to arrange collection and to bring along their race bibs.
Those unable to collect their items in person may opt for postage, with delivery costs to be borne by the runner.
The announcement came a day after the race, which was expected to draw about 10,000 people, was called off due to worsening haze conditions.
The marathon is an annual road running event by MBPJ, featuring races ranging from a 1km fun run to a 30km category.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the organisers, Puncak Ventures SRA and Petaling Jaya City Council, said the decision followed a review of the Air Pollutant Index (API), which remained in the unhealthy range despite forecasts of possible improvement.
“Although the latest forecast shows the API may improve within the next 24 hours, it remains in the unhealthy range and could pose health risks.
“After careful consideration, we believe cancelling the event is the most responsible decision at this time,” the statement said.
Despite the cancellation, organisers offered registered participants an optional 5km route, a move that drew mixed reactions on social media.
Videos shared online showed several dozen runners taking part, with some netizens questioning the decision to proceed with the shortened run while others welcomed the alternative.
