MELAKA: Greater support from parents, government agencies and the corporate sector is needed to strengthen the Scout movement’s role in the historic city to nurture disciplined and socially responsible future leaders.
Melaka chapter's Malaysian Scouts Federation Melaka's Chief Commissioner Noor Azmi said Scouting played an important role in building character, confidence and positive human values among young people.
He said the movement sought to cultivate the spirit of gotong-royong, strong discipline and mutual respect among Malaysians, alongside developing leadership qualities.
"Scouting goes beyond being a uniformed organisation.
"It strives to produce responsible leaders and individuals who are willing to serve society sincerely,” he said.
Noor Azmi said this in his speech during the 72nd anniversary celebration of the Malaysian Scouts Federation’s Kota Melaka district at a hotel in Ayer Keroh on Saturday (Sept 5).
The event was also attended by officials from the Melaka Education Department and representatives of the MCA Crisis Relief Squad and Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Corporate Associate Officers.
Noor Azmi said continued backing from all stakeholders was crucial to ensuring the movement remained prepared and relevant in shaping well-rounded young people.
Earlier, Malaysian Scouts Federation's Kota Melaka district chairman Yong Fun Juan said strong discipline was vital to expanding the movement more inclusively while ensuring that it remained responsive to the needs of local communities.
"By strengthening discipline, we can play a meaningful role in shaping the character and leadership qualities of young people,” he added.
