Malaysian Mukkulathor Council (MMC) honoured one of its pioneer members for his contribution to the society for over six decades.
MMC president Nantha Kumaran Danapalan garlanded B. Jayaveloo, 92, before presenting him with a plaque and scroll.
Jayaveloo, fondly called “Uncle”, had always been involved in Mukkulathor activities, Nantha Kumaran said at the 18th annual delegates conference at Shenga Convention Hall in Batu Caves, Kuala Lumpur.
“When we organised the first Global Mukkulathor Summit, he always called to give encouragement and motivation.
“He even said that if there was shortage of funds, he was willing to fill the gap.
“Such was his dedication,” Nantha Kumaran said, adding that even at his age, Jayaveloo took the trouble to attend national council meetings and even participated in a summit in Johor.
The society said Jayaveloo was instrumental in forming Perak Utara Mukkulathor Sangam in the early 1980s, and was a founding member of MMC in 1996.
According to its media release, the former student of King Edward VII School in Taiping, Perak, served as an administrative officer at Maxwell Hill before retiring in 1980.
During the conference, Nantha Kumaran was re-elected president for another term, with Datuk S. Chidamabranathan as his deputy.
Mogan Thevar and P. Manickavelu were elected vice-presidents, and Letchumanan Athappan as secretary-general. There are 15 committee members.
