Successful businessman gives advice to other start-ups

Ng has won numerous awards, including those from JCI 2020 Ten Outstanding Young Malaysians as well as JCI 2020 Creative Young Entrepreneur Award.

FOCUS and persistence are the two qualities that enabled Vanzo Asia Sdn Bhd founder and chief executive officer Eddie Ng Yee Heng to achieve what he has today.

“I believe that these two components are important.

“Managing a start-up and propelling it to greater heights is never easy.

“There will be a lot of people who doubt you but once you have set your sights on something, you have to persevere until you reach the destination, ” said Ng.

He recently won the Personal Improvement and/or Accomplishment category of JCI 2020 Ten Outstanding Young Malaysians as well as JCI 2020 Creative Young Entrepreneur Award.

Both awards recognise exceptional achievements by young entrepreneurs.

“I am grateful and honoured that my efforts have been recognised, ” said Ng, 36, who is from Skudai, Johor Baru.

He was inspired to set up a company selling air fresheners after being employed as a car fragrance sales agent in 2014.

“I still remember renting a Proton Iswara so I could move around.

“I realised there was a huge untapped market in air fresheners and a lack of high-quality, toxic-free car fragrance products.

“So, I planned for my own start-up while working as a car fragrance sales agent in the morning and Grab driver at night, ” he said.

In 2017, he established Vanza Asia Sdn Bhd.

Now, the company has a range of air freshener and car fragrance products, supplied by Japanese firms Ogawa Flavours and Fragrances and Taiyo Corporation.

“Our products are constantly being upgraded and adapted to meet market needs.

“For example, the antibacterial fragrance was developed during this Covid-19 pandemic and we also have a car perfume range exclusively for women, ” he said.

Vanzo sells its products in Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Vietnam, China and Brunei.

“Moving forward, we plan to come up with more quality products and expand to more countries.

“The journey has been tough but as a startup, you should not give up, ” Ng said.

Vanzo has received numerous awards such as Asia-Pacific Super Health Brand, SME 100 Fast-Moving Companies, Asia Most Outstanding Star and Air Refresher Grandmaster Excellence Award as well as Natural Health Readers’ Choice Award.
