Which is your favourite month of the year?
Many children say their birthday month is their favourite because that is when they get cake, presents and lots of attention. Others may choose festive months like Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Deepavali or Christmas.
These special celebrations mean colourful decorations, delicious food, fun family gatherings and sometimes even a little extra pocket money.

Even when there is no big celebration, any month can be special. What makes a month our favourite is not just the presents or parties, but the happy memories we create.
It could be a family trip, a picnic at the park or spending quality time with your best buddies during the school holidays.
Here are the letters from Starchild readers on the topic, My favourite month.
“May is my favourite month because it is my birthday month! My mother bakes my favourite chocolate cake, and my father lets me choose what we eat for dinner. Sometimes I celebrate with my friends at school too. They make cards for me, and we share sweets during recess,” says Magdalene Chua, eight.
Loshini Erin Segaran, 10, says her favourite month is Deepavali. “I drew a beautiful peacock to show how colourful and bright the festival is. The peacock’s feathers remind me of the many colours we see during Deepavali. Deepavali is special because my family cleans and decorates our home with oil lamps and kolam patterns. We wear new clothes and visit our relatives. I enjoy eating murukku, laddu and other tasty treats.”
