Do you enjoy going grocery shopping with your parents? What do you like best about shopping with them? Perhaps you enjoy pushing the cart, picking up the items, or putting them neatly into the basket. Grocery shopping can be a lot of fun, and it’s also a great way to learn new things!
When you help your parents make a shopping list, you get to think about what your family needs. Maybe you check the fridge to see if there’s any milk or eggs left. You can even suggest your favourite snacks or fruits to put on the list.
Shopping is also a great way to learn about money. You can watch how your parents check prices and stay within a budget. You might also learn the difference between things we need, like bread and milk, and things we just want, like candy.
To make it extra fun, some parents turn shopping into a game. Maybe you race to find the next item on the list or take charge of one section of the cart. By helping out, you feel proud and excited because you are part of the family’s team.
Here are the letters from Starchild readers on the topic, Grocery shopping.

Macke Lau, 10, likes shopping for groceries with his family. “When I go shopping with my brothers, we will race to get kid trolleys and compete to see whose trolley can get filled with the most items. Besides that, I also frequently shop with my mum. We get all sorts of things like nori sheets because I like to eat sushi. I cannot finish my meal without my precious vegetables, so we must buy veggies.
“But my favourite part of the grocery store is the cheese and dairy section. If given a choice, I will buy the entire dairy section because I really love cheese.”

“I enjoy going to grocery stores with my parents. I help push the trolley and make payment at the counter. Sometimes I get to choose a treat for myself and my sister. My favourite groceries to buy are cold items like popsicles and canned drinks. I also like French fries, Chinese egg noodles and fruits,” says Asher Wang Qi Chuen, eight.
“I love going grocery shopping with Daddy and Mummy. I always pick my favourite fruits like apples and grapes, yummy snacks like chocolate and cookies, and sometimes ice cream. It’s so fun filling the cart with all the foods I like the most,” shares Cara Sim, nine.
