PETALING JAYA: The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) has hosted the inaugural ASEAN Regulatory Sustainability Summit aimed at strengthening the region’s resilience against emerging economic and sustainability pressures.
Held in collaboration with the Centre for Sustainable Development Law and Policy at Durham University on Sept 9, the closed-door summit brought together more than 40 senior policymakers, capital market regulators, academics and industry experts from the United Kingdom, United States and Asia-Pacific.
Supported by the Asian Development Bank, the summit builds on the ASEAN Capital Markets Forum (ACMF) Action Plan 2026-2030 and seeks to advance discussions on pressing sustainability challenges confronting ASEAN and the wider international financial community.
Under the theme “Building Resilience while Navigating Global Shifts”, participants explored ways to strengthen country, market and corporate resilience.
SC chairman Datuk Mohammad Faiz Azmi said in a statement that capital markets and regulators have an important role in addressing gaps between emerging risks and preparedness.
“Resilience is the balance between the risks we are exposed to and our preparedness for them. This gap is precisely where capital market and regulators can and must act on,” he said.
Faiz expressed hope that the summit would translate discussions into concrete action across ASEAN capital markets.
“ASEAN recognises that resilience is not a commitment reserved for good times, but one that can sustain us even in difficult circumstances,” he added.
