FROM CONCORD TO WORLD’S LEADING UNIS

At Concord, examination success is celebrated not only for the results themselves, but for the opportunities they create for students’ futures.

SUCCESS in examinations is not the destination; it is a stepping stone to a world of new possibilities. For Concord College International School, the value of an excellent education lies not simply in the grades students achieve, but in what those grades enable them to do next.

This philosophy is reflected through its inaugural International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and A-Level results, which showed strong academic performance across the graduating class.

The students’ IGCSE results saw 52% of grades awarded at A* to A and 85% at A* to C. For the A-Level exams, 43% of grades were awarded at A*, while 62% were at A* to A, 81% at A* to B and 91% at A* to C.

Its first graduating cohort, comprising students who joined the school when it first opened in Sept 2024, has gone on to receive offers from 45 universities across seven countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, South Korea, China, Australia and the Netherlands.

The students are now progressing towards a diverse range of educational pathways, with offers spanning disciplines such as medicine, molecular bioengineering and biomedical engineering.

Their university destinations include leading institutions such as Imperial College London, University College London (UCL) and the University of Hong Kong (HKU).

Among the cohort’s standout achievers is Evangeline Lua, Concord’s first head girl, who secured a full-tuition scholarship to Tsinghua University, China, as well as a fully funded scholarship to the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).

Beyond academic excellence, personal development is at the heart of the school’s ethos.

Evangeline was also awarded the Frank Bell Prize, the highest honour bestowed on a student at Concord.

Carried over from Concord College UK, the award recognises students who best embody the school’s ethos and values through academic diligence, high personal standards and meaningful contributions to the school community, qualities that define a true Concordian.

Her achievement reflects Concord’s belief that excellence extends beyond academic success, encompassing character, leadership and a positive impact on those around them.

Personalised support

These achievements are cultivated through a rigorous academic approach, underpinned by high expectations, regular feedback and targeted support for every student.

Secondary school students’ progress is tracked through a structured monitoring system featuring specific touchpoints such as weekly assessments, routine classwork evaluations and end-of-term examinations.

Regular assessments allow teachers to identify gaps early, respond to individual student needs and ensure that they are properly prepared for examinations. Parents also have access to weekly updates and academic reports each term, ensuring they remain closely informed of their child’s development.

Dedicated staff also support older students with university placement, helping them work towards the specific academic and extracurricular milestones required for their chosen pathways.

This approach is further supported by academic clinics, targeted sessions conducted during the school’s extracurricular hours.

These sessions give students dedicated time to address areas they find challenging, prepare for assessments, explore ideas beyond the curriculum or delve deeper into subjects they are particularly passionate about.

Together, these practices create a continuous cycle of learning, feedback and improvement – the same rigour behind the cohort’s results – helping students build academic confidence and prepare them for a future of educational pursuits.

Developing well-rounded individuals

Academic excellence and personal development are central to the school’s ethos of “Rigour. Kindness. Creativity.”

This ethos extends across the Concord community, from the early years through to sixth form, shaping how students learn, interact and grow.

At Concord, university preparation takes a holistic approach, nurturing creativity, character and confidence alongside academic achievement.

Through enrichment programmes and its super-curriculum collaboration with neighbouring Xiamen University Malaysia, students gain opportunities to explore interests beyond the classroom, from science workshops to joint sporting activities, broadening their horizons and enriching their learning experience.

These include sports, competitions, music, dance, coding, robotics and the “Model United Nations” activity.

Through exposure to a broad range of activities and experiences, students are encouraged to discover their passions and develop the skills to pursue them with purpose.

Kindness is part of everyday life at Concord, shown through students’ respect for one another, willingness to help and celebration of each other’s achievements.

These small acts of care foster empathy, friendship and a supportive community where every student feels valued and encouraged to grow.

Concord’s boarding experience combines private en-suite accommodation with a structured daily routine that supports students’ academic and personal wellbeing.

The school’s pastoral care system provides support throughout every stage of a student’s educational journey, ensuring that students feel a strong sense of belonging and are encouraged to achieve their personal best.

Every student is supported socially and emotionally through strong relationships, open communication and personalised guidance.

A home away from home

For boarding students, the Concord experience extends beyond the classroom into a supportive residential community designed to nurture independence and personal growth.

With private en-suite accommodation, structured daily routines and dedicated pastoral support, students are provided with an environment that balances academic focus with personal wellbeing.

Living alongside peers from diverse cultural backgrounds also provides opportunities to develop meaningful friendships, appreciate different perspectives and build the confidence to navigate life away from home.

Through this experience, boarders gradually develop independence, discipline and responsibility, preparing them for the transition to university and beyond.

Where ambition meets achievement

The achievements of its inaugural graduating cohort mark an important milestone in the school’s journey and reflect its commitment to nurturing young people who are academically accomplished, confident and ready to embrace the future.

As the school continues to grow, its focus remains on providing an education that combines academic ambition with kindness, creativity and personal development, empowering every student to pursue their own path to success.
