WHAT was supposed to be a routine arrest unfolded into an incident that would not have been out of place in an action movie.

A video has gone viral of a policeman making an arrest. The suspect, in an attempt to escape, hits the policeman with the car he is driving and nearly runs over him before crashing into a patrol car.

Did this incident actually happen?

Verdict:

TRUE

South Klang OCPD Asst Comm Ramli Kasa said a policeman was injured while attempting to arrest a robbery suspect at a petrol station on Persiaran Raja Muda Musa in Klang on Wednesday (Nov 12).

He said policemen on patrol came across a car believed to be involved in a robbery in Subang Jaya.

"When police moved in to make the arrest, the suspect acted aggressively and pushed one of the policemen before fleeing in the car," he said in a statement on Thursday (Nov 13).

ACP Ramli said the suspect's vehicle struck the policeman and knocked him off his feet, and the fleeing vehicle nearly ran over the prone officer before crashing into the police vehicle.

"The suspect then tried to flee and drove the car against traffic towards Shah Alam.

"He later abandoned his car along Persiaran Sultan Ibrahim and fled on foot," he said.

Police later arrested a 33-year-old man at 12.45am on Thursday in Bandar Bukit Tinggi.

"Checks revealed that the suspect has a criminal record including for drugs.

"He is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of duties and Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder," he said.

A one-minute, 17-second video of the incident went viral on social media, which shows a white car speeding away while the injured policeman lies on the ground. Some people are then seen rushing to assist the injured officer.
