QuickCheck: Is the viral Education Ministry statement on the 2025 SPM results authentic?

A STATEMENT bearing the Education Ministry logo and claiming to break down the 2025 SPM results has been making the rounds on social media, raising eyebrows and sparking heated debate online.

The document, which has been shared widely since the official results were announced, contains analysis and figures that were not part of any official announcement.

But is the statement actually from the Education Ministry?

Verdict:

FALSE

The viral press statement purportedly issued by the Education Ministry containing a breakdown of the 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results is fake, according to Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh.

Wong was responding to a statement bearing the Education Ministry logo that had been circulating on social media since the day the official SPM results were announced, which contained student achievement figures and analysis that did not feature in any official announcement.

He was unequivocal in his denial.

"What has gone viral is 101% incorrect. That is definitely not true," he told reporters after a working visit to the Replacement Building Project at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil Dengkil.

Wong said the SPM examination and the announcement of its results were carried out strictly in accordance with established benchmarks and standards, with no compromises made.

"For this SPM, we conducted the examination in compliance with all set benchmarks and standards for every single subject. For the date of the results announcement, we ensured the results were released at 10am simultaneously nationwide," he said.

He added that announcing the results nationwide in a uniform manner was specifically designed to ensure transparency, and was a standard the ministry would not deviate from.

"This is a standard that the Education Ministry will not compromise on," he said.

The public is advised not to share or rely on unverified documents bearing official government logos, and to refer only to official ministry channels for accurate information on examination results.

The Education Ministry has since released a statement on the social media pages concerning the matter.
