A fight did take place at a car park in front of a grocery store in Bintulu, with seven local men subsequently arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department of the Bintulu District Police Headquarters, as reported by Bernama.
Bintulu OCPD Supt Nixon Joshua Ali said preliminary investigations found that the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding related to a vehicle accident and had no connection with gangsterism.
"The case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting and investigations will be expedited for referral to the Deputy Public Prosecutor's Office," said Supt Nixon Joshua.
He added that Section 147 provides for a jail term of up to two years, a fine, or both, upon conviction.
All seven suspects were remanded to assist in investigations.
