A VOICE message warning of a robbers targetting drivers on the Tambunan-Penampang route has gone viral, sparking concern.

The message describes a potentially dangerous encounter with another vehicle on the road.

Keningau district police chief Supt Yampil Garai dismissed the claim, stating that no official reports have been lodged regarding such incidents.

"So far, the police have not received any reports on this matter. Our crime prevention patrols from the Tambunan Police Station have conducted rounds up to Gunung Alab and found no unusual activity," he said.

Yampil urged the public to file official police reports instead of relying on viral messages to ensure proper investigation and response.

Authorities remind motorists to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station for verification and action.

In the viral voice message, a man claims he was driving along the Tambunan-Penampang route around 9pm when he noticed a car parked in the middle of the road.

Sensing danger, he cautiously drove past, only for the same car to allegedly begin tailing him about 50km later, overtaking his vehicle.

The man managed to escape unharmed but warned that stopping could have led to an attack by a potential assailant hiding nearby.

He advised motorists to remain vigilant, carry self-defence items, and avoid travelling at night.
