ALOR GAJAH: PKR senses a favourable groundswell in Melaka polls, but victory remains far from certain, says Datuk Seri R. Ramanan.
The PKR vice-president said encouraging feedback from voters had given the party reason for optimism, although the outcome of the Nov 14 state election remained unpredictable.
“We have put in every effort and done our best ahead of the state election.
“However, we do not know what will happen on polling day,” he said after opening the i-LINDUNG u Gegar @ Melaka programme at Dataran Keris here on Saturday (Oct 17).
Ramanan, who is also Human Resources Minister, said the party’s branch leaders, supported by their counterparts from outside Melaka, had begun engaging voters and attending to grassroots concerns.
“We are receiving positive feedback from constituents and hope this will translate into victory.
“Nevertheless, it is still too early to gauge how the party will fare, as various factors will determine the outcome,” he said.
Ramanan said Budget 2027, tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, could also influence voters’ decisions.
He said the Budget addressed the needs of various segments of society, with measures covering economic growth, employment, wages and minimum income.
“This is a people’s Budget that reflects our Prime Minister’s concern for the rakyat,” he said.
On candidates, Ramanan said PKR’s list for the Melaka polls was “99% finalised” and awaiting approval from Anwar, who is also party president.
He said the candidates would be announced on Oct 24 at Stadium Hang Jebat in Krubong here.
