No rally by foreigners, only a fake video on social media, say KL cops

KUALA LUMPUR: A video showing a supposed rally by foreigners here has been found to be made from old and edited footage.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus said that the police confirms no such protest being organised at the Bukit Bintang area as alleged on social media.

“Kuala Lumpur police have confirmed that a viral video purportedly showing Bangladeshi nationals gathering to stage a protest in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, is old footage edited using Artificial Intelligence (AI).

“Checks revealed that the video used footage of New Year celebrations in Bukit Bintang on Jan 1, 2022, which was subsequently edited using AI techniques. The video is old, as the Selangor Foundation Building in the background still appears in its old and dilapidated condition.

“The issue being chanted about in the video concerns the Comilla issue in Bangladesh in 2022,” he said.
