Melaka polls: BN ready to unveil candidates, says state coalition chairman

ALOR GAJAH: Barisan Nasional is ready to unveil its candidates for the Melaka polls, with its line-up complete, says the state coalition chairman.

Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh (pic) said the announcement would be made soon as nomination day draws closer.

"We will announce it very soon," he said when met at Kampung Pulau here on Friday (Oct 16).

Ab Rauf, who is also the Melaka caretaker Chief Minister, said Barisan's election preparations had entered their final stage, including negotiations with other parties to finalise electoral cooperation and seat allocations.

He said the outcome of these discussions would also be announced before nomination day.

"The outcome will be made known following the final round of negotiations, which will take place soon," he added.

His remarks indicate that while Barisan has completed its candidate list, discussions on the arrangements under which it will contest the election are still being concluded.

In the 2021 Melaka state election, Barisan won 21 of the 28 state seats, securing enough seats to form the state government on its own.

The Election Commission has fixed Oct 31 for nominations, Nov 10 for early voting and Nov 14 for polling in the Melaka state election.
