PETALING JAYA: A total of 159,232 undocumented foreign nationals were nabbed for various immigration offences between 2025 and August this year, says the Home Ministry.
It said the Immigration Department carried out 53,318 operations nationwide, inspecting 659,191 individuals.
“The arrests were for various offences, including not having valid passes or permits, and staying past the permitted time frame,” the ministry said in a written parliamentary reply.
“Further action will be taken in accordance with existing legislation,” it said, adding that action was also taken against 6,099 employers during this period.
On another matter, the ministry said there has been one case of falsifying a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) document.
Referencing police records, it said the case was in Kuala Lumpur, where six foreign nationals were arrested and charged in court.
The government will introduce the Refugee Registration Document (DPP) programme to strengthen oversight and management of refugee claimants, it said.
“This allows the government to manage its own registration system,” it said.
