> Chinese actor Wang Xing was forced to take an online loan of 178,000 yuan (RM108,660) which he could not cancel after being defrauded by a recruitment advertisement in Thailand last year.
Sin Chew Daily reported that Wang, 32, had to pay 4,000 yuan (RM2,440) per month in instalments. Sometimes, he even borrowed money from his girlfriend to make ends meet.
Wang was abducted by a human trafficking syndicate after flying to Thailand in January 2025 with the hope of landing a job.
Later, he was smuggled into Myawaddy, Myanmar, where he was forced to work at a scam centre.
The Chinese Embassy led a joint rescue effort with the Thai government and freed Wang after four days in captivity.
Despite being freed, the syndicate made Wang take the loan where all the 178,000 yuan was transferred to the syndicate’s account.
