MELAKA: PKR must begin planning for its future and prepare the next generation of leaders beyond the era of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, says its vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa.
She said that a mature party should not shy away from discussing its long-term succession plan.
“If we want to build a party that is greater than any individual, we must think about its future. Who is next after Anwar Ibrahim?” she asked.
Dr Zaliha said as a party that championed reforms to limit the prime minister’s executive powers, PKR must be equally proactive in developing potential successors.
Meanwhile, vice-president Datuk Seri R. Ramanan urged party members to rally behind Anwar for a second term to enable the Federal Government to complete its reform agenda.
He said party unity is crucial to ensure government policies and reform initiatives yield tangible results for the public.
“We want PMX (Anwar) to remain for another term. Only then can the reforms and our struggle be completed. Only then can our work be completed,” he said.
Elections director Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said PKR will launch early election machinery drives in Perikatan Nasional-ruled Kedah and Perlis.
“In two weeks, we will start,” he said.
Amirudin was responding to Kedah Mentri Besar and Perikatan election director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, who claimed that PAS aimed to use Selangor as the launching pad to defeat Pakatan Harapan in the 16th General Election.
Meanwhile, former Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said he will accept whatever decision the party leadership makes regarding his future role, following the party’s defeat in the recent state election.
“I don’t want to run from my responsibility and I don’t want to point fingers,” he said.
