AYER KEROH: PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on party members to give their full support to Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who will assume the duties of acting deputy president.
Speaking during his speech at the 2026 PKR National Congress on Sunday (Aug 16), Anwar addressed the leadership transition following deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar's temporary leave of absence.
“At our congress, there is now a vacancy. I do not want there to be a vacuum. I am 79 years old, and I do not know what the future holds,” Anwar said.
He described Saifuddin as a loyal and trusted ally capable of stepping into the role during this transition period.
“I have been thinking about an old and most loyal friend whom I have known for a very long time to continue this work. I know this will be a burden,” Anwar added.
He expressed confidence in Saifuddin's political foresight and urged the party to rally behind the interim leadership structure.
“I hope that, following this announcement, the entire strength of the party will give full support, cooperation and confidence,” he said.
Anwar also confirmed that PKR vice-president and Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has been given the full mandate as the party's election director.
He stressed the importance of internal party cohesion, calling for an end to factionalism and parallel structures within PKR.
“I also want to make it clear that we can no longer have a subsystem or an alternative system. There must be one system, one leadership, one structure,” Anwar said.
