Shafie, Leiking returned unopposed as Warisan top leaders

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal and his deputy, Datuk Darell Leiking, have been returned unopposed to their respective posts following the close of nominations on Monday (Oct 12).

The duo have led the party since rebranding it in October 2016.

Warisan secretary-general Datuk Loretto Padua confirmed when contacted on Tuesday (Oct 13) that no other candidates submitted nominations for the top two posts ahead of the party's annual delegates meeting, scheduled for Oct 24 to 25 in Sandakan.

Padua said eight nominations were received for the three vice-president slots, while 39 candidates were nominated for the 20 supreme council seats.

However, he declined to immediately reveal the full list of nominees, explaining that party officials were still vetting and finalising the submissions.

It is understood that the three incumbent vice-presidents—Tg Aru assemblyman Datuk Junz Wong, Sulabayan assemblyman Datuk Jaujan Sambakong, and Terrence Siambun—are expected to defend their positions.

They are anticipated to face challenges from Kota Belud MP Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis, Kapayan assemblyman Chin Teck Ming, party treasurer Azhar Matussin, information chief Datuk Azis Jamman, and Kota Belud division deputy chief Charles Ebbie, all of whom received nominations for the vice-presidency.

Party sources noted that nominated candidates have yet to confirm whether they will officially contest the seats.
