Parliament to hold Special Chambers debate on haze

KUALA LUMPUR: The current haze impacting Malaysia will be debated in the Dewan Rakyat's Special Chambers on Tuesday (Oct 13) evening.

Deputy Speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor relayed this during proceedings, adding that Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul felt the motion submitted by Khoo Poay Tiong (PH-Kota Melaka) on Friday (Oct 9) fulfilled the set criteria.

"The Speaker acknowledged the motion as being specific, a matter of public interest and should be hastened.

"Hence, the Speaker has allowed for the matter to be debated in the Special Chambers," he said.

This comes amidst the worsening haze situation in Malaysia, which resulted in the closure of schools in several states due to haze.

In September, an emergency was also declared in Serian, Sarawak after the Air Pollutant Index (API) reached a hazardous level of 521.
