Former Batu MP Tian Chua says he is ready to return to PKR

AYER KEROH: Former PKR vice-president Chua Tian Chang, better known as Tian Chua, has expressed his readiness to return to the party after attending its annual congress.

Tian Chua told The Star that he was prepared to rejoin his former party, adding that the final decision rests with PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

"It is Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s call. He has to revert our membership," the former Batu MP said on Sunday (Aug 16).

Tian Chua was sacked from PKR in 2023 after contesting as an independent candidate against the party in the 15th General Election.

His response comes after Anwar extended an open invitation to former party veterans and members who had drifted away to return, while apologising to those who felt sidelined.

Speaking during his winding-up speech at the congress, PKR Information chief Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil recalled standing up to defend Tian Chua at the same venue seven years ago when others opposed him.

Fahmi noted that he had spoken to Tian Chua earlier in the day and emphasised the importance of heeding the party president's call to consolidate strength by welcoming back former allies.

However, the Communications Minister suggested that returning members should undergo a cooling-off period before being considered for party positions to prevent past grievances from re-emerging.

"They can return, but perhaps they should not be given any positions for the time being," Fahmi said.
