Five shoplots razed in pre-dawn blaze near Port Klang


PORT KLANG: Five adjoining shoplots in front of a fishing pond in Taman Sungai Sireh here were damaged in a fire early Monday (Aug 17).

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the department received an emergency call at 5.38am and firemen from the Port Klang Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene at 5.50am.

He said the fire involved five shoplots in a row, each measuring about 20m by 70m.

“About 80% of each shoplot was destroyed in the fire. No casualties were reported,” he said in a statement today.

Ashrul Riezal said the affected premises comprised a welding workshop, motorcycle workshop, eatery, air-conditioning service shop and refrigerator repair shop.

“The fire was brought under control at 6.40am and overhaul operations are currently underway,” he said.

A total of 19 personnel from the Port Klang and Klang Selatan fire and rescue stations were involved in the operation, with two Fire Rescue Tenders, two water tankers and two Rapid Intervention Motorcycles deployed.

The cause of the fire and total losses have yet to be determined.
