KLANG: A shipment of illegal sex toys valued at RM52,500 has been seized by the Customs Department following an inspection of a suspicious shipping container.
At a press conference at the department’s Selangor headquarters, state Customs Director Noraidah Ishak said officers detained the container on May 26 at the North Port Free Zone in Port Klang.
“Checks then led to the discovery of 1,240 sex toys packed inside the container with other items. The seized items are classified as prohibited items,” she said.
Noraidah added that the shipment originated from another Asian country and arrived at the port on May 21.
Investigations are ongoing to identify the intended recipient of the illicit cargo.
“The container was declared under false declarations under Customs Form 1, being listed as chairs, waist bags, stainless steel tumblers and underwear to avoid detection by the department,” she said.
She noted that the seizure marks the Selangor Customs Department's first haul of such contraband this year.
“The case is still being investigated. We believe the items were intended for the local market,” she said.
