SHAH ALAM: The Selangor Customs Department foiled attempts to smuggle ketamine and cannabis buds worth more than RM2.24mil in two separate operations in Sepang and Kelantan in August and last month.
Selangor Customs director Noraidah Ishak said the drugs, weighing a combined 44.78kg, were seized under Ops Mekong Dragon VII and Ops Shieldgate.
She said the first case involved an inspection of three imported courier parcels at a courier company's mail centre in Sepang on Aug 13.
"An inspection by the Selangor Customs Department Enforcement Division under Ops Mekong Dragon uncovered 15 plastic packets each in the first and second boxes, and 14 packets in the third box.
"The suspected ketamine weighed 44.5kg, with an estimated value of RM2.22mil," she said in a statement on Wednesday (Nov 4).
Noraidah said the syndicate made false declarations on the air waybills, describing the items as plastic wrap, fabric, stethoscopes, and air filters.
"The consignment is believed to have been imported from a European country, with the recipient's address in Sepang," she said.
In the second case under Ops Shieldgate on Oct 13, customs officers tailed an unregistered motorcycle in Jeli, Kelantan.
"Realising he was being followed, the motorcyclist fled, sparking a pursuit with enforcement vehicles before the suspect escaped.
"The suspect discarded a plastic package by the roadside containing 0.28 kg of suspected cannabis buds valued at RM22,880," she said.
Noraidah said all the seized drugs were taken to the North Port Customs Office for further investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. - Bernama
