Build bridges for unity govt, says Nurul Izzah

MELAKA: After decades of being branded “devils” and accused of selling out the country, PKR members must now take the higher road and work with their rivals, says deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar.

She said party members must rise above past animosity and build bridges with their political opponents to strengthen the unity government.

“Those who were in Putrajaya before we fully took over did not know who we were. They only knew us as one entity after another.

“So when we went there, they had been told for so long, for decades, that ‘they are the devils, the ones selling out the country’.

“At their general assemblies, whose picture did they put up as the enemy of the country? The picture of our president.

“They defamed us, as if we did not have any dignity, and this is a fact,” she said during her winding-up speech on the president’s policy speech at the 2026 PKR National Congress yesterday.

The congress also marked Nurul Izzah’s final public appearance before she goes on leave to pursue her doctoral studies.

At the close of the congress, party members paid tribute to her with a bouquet of flowers to honour her contributions to the party since the Reformasi movement and the party’s founding in 1999.

Nurul Izzah said PKR’s participation in the unity government is a test that requires its members to rise above past differences and work towards a common goal.
