PETALING JAYA: The battle for Negri Sembilan has officially begun, with nomination day confirming the line-up of candidates vying for the state's 36 seats.
Based on the Election Commission's (EC) official list of nominated candidates, a total of 103 candidates will contest the election, with polling set for Aug 1.
The list shows Pakatan Harapan fielding candidates in all 36 seats, while Barisan Nasional is contesting 25 seats. Perikatan Nasional will contest 11 seats.
Other parties joining the race include Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), which is contesting 24 seats, while Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) and Parti Orang Asli Malaysia (Asli) are contesting one seat each.
The Barisan Jemaah Islamiah Se-Malaysia (Berjasa) party has also nominated one candidate in Nilai.
In addition, four independent candidates have entered the race, according to the EC's nomination list.
The fiercest contests will take place in Nilai and Sri Tanjung, where five candidates will face off in each constituency.

The election will also feature several multi-cornered contests following a series of political developments and shifting alliances ahead of nomination day.

Among the multi-cornered contests, three-way fights are the most common, taking place in 21 constituencies.
Before the state assembly was dissolved, Pakatan Harapan held the largest bloc with 17 seats, followed by Barisan Nasional with 14. Perikatan Nasional occupied the remaining five seats.
