PENGERANG: Four teenagers are feared missing after six members of a group of 15 who went camping at Pantai Tanjung Lompat near Tanjung Balau in Penawar here got into trouble while swimming.
The group arrived at the beach at about 6.30pm on Tuesday (Sept 1) for the camping trip.
Penawar Fire and Rescue Station operation commander Muhammad Adib Tarmizi said the department received an emergency call at about 8.19am on Wednesday (Sept 2) regarding the incident.
“Initial information received from members of the public indicated that six people were involved in a drowning incident while swimming at the beach.
“Two of the victims were rescued by members of the public at about 7.45am, before our team arrived at the scene,” he said.
Muhammad Adib said firefighters then launched a search and rescue operation for the remaining four teenagers.
A team of six firefighters from the Penawar Fire and Rescue Station was deployed to the scene using a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT).
The team arrived at the location at about 8.30am, some 9km from the fire station.
He said firefighters immediately carried out rescue operations upon arrival at the beach.
The operation was still ongoing as of, with the department expected to provide further information on the missing teenagers and the two rescued victims.
