SERDANG: Any formal discussion for political cooperation in the Melaka polls will only be held after the state assembly is dissolved, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Barisan Nasional chairman said Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh would lead any formal negotiation.

"Some unofficial discussions have already taken place but formal negotiations will only be held after the state assembly is dissolved," he said after visiting the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Exhibition (Maha) 2026 here on Sunday (Aug 30).

"We have also met with the political bureau to further discuss and review the data gathered by Melaka Umno's war room," he said.

This comes after Pakatan election director Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari announced that the coalition was open to working with any political party to ensure the political stability and prosperity of the country on Saturday (Aug 29).

Barisan formed the previous Melaka government after winning 21 seats, followed by Pakatan with five seats and Perikatan Nasional with two during the 15th Melaka Election.

The current mandate of the Melaka government expires on Dec 31, 2026.
