IPOH: A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a robbery in Teluk Intan that resulted in the death of a 69-year-old man in April.
Hilir Perak OCPD Asst Comm Chua Kok Lian said the local man was arrested in Klang, Selangor, on Aug 26 following an operation to track down wanted suspects.
He said the arrest was part of the police’s ongoing efforts to identify and bring all those believed to be involved in the case to justice.
“Previously, four of the suspect’s accomplices were arrested and charged in court on May 7 under Section 302 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same code,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Sept 2).
ACP Chua said further investigations had been completed and the investigation papers referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor, who instructed that the latest suspect should also be charged under the same provisions.
The suspect, who is still under remand, is expected to be brought before the Teluk Intan Magistrate’s Court today to face the charge.
ACP Chua said police would continue intensifying efforts to track down and take firm action against individuals involved in criminal activities.
He also urged members of the public with information on criminal activities to contact the police to help maintain public safety and security, particularly in the Hilir Perak district.
On April 17, the 69-year-old man was killed during a robbery at his home in Pekan Baru, Teluk Intan.
At that time, ACP Chua said the victim is believed to have died from slash wounds during the 6am incident.
The victim's wife was in the porch area preparing for prayers when three men climbed over the walls and rushed into their home.
The victim was seriously injured after being slashed with a sharp object, possibly a machete, on his right hand and left palm, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
