PUTRAJAYA: Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional are expected to decide on the direction of their cooperation for the Melaka state election before Malaysia Day on Sept 16, says PKR election director Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
Amirudin, who is also Selangor Mentri Besar, said discussions were still at an early stage, with any final decision requiring approval from both Pakatan and PKR.
"I think before Malaysia Day, we may have a clearer picture of how we will move forward in facing the Melaka state election," he told reporters here Thursday (Aug 27).
Amirudin said another round of discussions was expected this week to assess the progress of negotiations.
"We are still at the preliminary exploratory stage and cannot make a decision yet. But I will also need to report back to Pakatan and PKR before any agreement can be finalised," he said.
Amirudin said that Pakatan and Barisan would draw on their experience of both cooperating and competing against each other in previous state elections to determine the best approach for Melaka.
"We have worked with Barisan as a coalition in state elections, competed against each other in Johor and Negri Sembilan, and worked closely together in Sabah.
"We will draw on all these experiences to find an outcome that benefits everyone," he said.
On Wednesday (Aug 26), Pakatan communications director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil reportedly said the coalition had its own schedule and timeline for discussions on preparations for the Melaka state election. - Bernama
