KUALA LUMPUR: The body of an unidentified man was found inside the wheel well of an aircraft at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2 (KLIA2) on Thursday (Aug 27).
The victim was discovered in a decomposed state at about 6.55am in the wheel well of a flight from Tokyo, Japan, which landed at about 6.30am.
It is learnt that the body was found by engineering personnel tasked with opening the aircraft's wheel well, who detected a foul smell coming from the compartment.
An inspection of the tyre storage area on the right side of the aircraft led to the discovery of the man, who was found lying face down and believed to have been dead for over 72 hours.
The matter was subsequently reported to the KLIA2 police station operations room.
KLIA OCPD Asst Comm Ravi Munusamy confirmed that police received the first report on the incident at about 7am from the Airport Operations Control Centre.
Police forensic personnel were later deployed to the scene to conduct further investigations.
The victim, who is estimated to be between 17 and 25 years old, was clad in a white hoodie with a dragon image on the back and the word “Oakley” on the front, light blue jeans, a brown leather belt, socks and black sports shoes.
However, no identification documents or injuries were found on him.
The body has been sent to the Forensic Department at Serdang Hospital for a post-mortem, with investigations ongoing to determine his identity and cause of death.
