SHAH ALAM: A dispute over business territory between two secret society groups is believed to be the motive behind a fight and slashing incident that left one person dead in Taman Alam Megah
Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Shazeli Kahar said 11 individuals in their early 20s, believed to be members of the two groups, have been arrested so far.
"Five of the suspects have been remanded for seven days, while police are in the process of applying for remand orders against the remaining six.
"We have also recorded statements from witnesses and other relevant parties to assist in the investigation.
"Based on our investigations, the motive is believed to be a dispute over territory involving several business activities between two secret society groups operating around Shah Alam. We are looking into the nature of the businesses involved," he told a press conference at the Selangor police headquarters here on Thursday (Aug 27).
Comm Shazeli said police had identified several other individuals who were still being sought in connection with the case.
He added that investigations were also underway into the backgrounds of the groups involved.
"The fight resulted in one death, while three others are still receiving treatment at hospital," he said.
He also confirmed that the case was unrelated to a separate incident involving a group of individuals setting off firecrackers at the Jalan Hamzah intersection in Section U14 here.
The incident, which occurred at about 2pm on Tuesday, went viral on social media.
Video footage of the incident showed a blue vehicle crashing into one of the suspects, who died at the scene.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
In a separate case, police are still tracking down a group of suspects involved in an attempted robbery at a goldsmith shop in Jalan Tengku Kelana, Klang, on Aug 20.
Comm Shazeli said investigations were ongoing and the suspects were believed to be locals.
"We have received several positive leads based on information from the public. We believe the suspects had planned the crime and were waiting for an opportunity to carry it out," he said.
