KULAI: Nearly 13,000 cases of late birth registration have been resolved by the National Registration Department (NRD) in 2026, says Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
He said that some families continued to face difficulties obtaining birth certificates for their children.
“The absence of birth registration can create serious difficulties for children, particularly when they need to enrol in school or seek hospital treatment,” he said.
Saifuddin said the department continued to work with affected families to resolve documentation issues and ensure they could access essential public services.
He was speaking during the Kampung Angkat Madani programme at Kampung Melayu Sedenak here on Saturday (Oct 24).
Saifuddin added that the department’s responsibilities extended beyond issuing identity documents, as it also handled the registration of births, marriages and deaths.
He said birth registration was particularly important because official documentation helped establish a person’s identity and enabled them to access public services.
On the programme, Saifuddin announced that Kampung Melayu Sedenak received an allocation of RM500,000, while Sekolah Menengah Pendidikan Khas Indahpura was selected as the department’s adopted school and received RM100,000.
He added the allocation for each adopted village had been adjusted from RM1mil to RM500,000 to allow more villages to benefit from the programme.
